The Unsalted Chef recipe for homemade Hawaiian rolls
1 lbs ground beef
½ large yellow onion, finely chopped
2 tbsp, no salt added ketchup
½ tbsp mustard
1 ½ tbsp mayonnaise
any choice of cheese optional
1 tsp minced dried onion
2 tbsp unsalted butter
Preheat oven to 350°F.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add ground beef and diced onion. Cook until the beef is fully browned and the onions are soft. Drain excess grease if needed.
Reduce heat to low, add sauces, and mix thoroughly. Let simmer for 2–4 minutes, then remove from heat.
Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping the rolls connected.
Place the bottom half of the rolls in a baking dish. Evenly spread the ground beef mixture over the rolls. Add cheese on top if using.
Place the top half of the rolls back on.
In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and stir in the dried minced onion.
Brush the butter mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls.
Bake uncovered for 10–15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and lightly crisp.
Remove from oven, slice, and serve warm
